At The Ballet: The Most Graceful Wedding Theme Ever

June 28, 2016

Now I might have been quite the tomboy when I was a little girl but I’ll admit that there were still moments when I wanted to be a ballerina and I’m sure I’m not alone. It’s easy to see why, as the little girl in us all grows up to become a bride to be, we often look to ballet to provide a timeless wedding theme. Beautiful, feminine, timeless and almost ethereal, an elegant ballet themed wedding can be, quite simply, sublime. So, here’s a little inspiration for you…

A ballet themed wedding is all about softness and refined luxury. A pale pink or blush pink base to your colour palette is absolutely perfect and you can add soft touches of gold or rose gold to bring the opulence in. However, subtlety should also play a big part here so avoid too many metallic touches and instead, use them sparingly for the biggest impact.

Your dress should be a light and flowing design, perhaps with a bodice that mirrors the design of a ballerina’s tutu or with delicate lace detailing. Choose a skirt of softest tulle for a graceful style and why not include a wrap-style cardigan in case of cool weather? Keep accessories dainty - opt for a beautiful bridal hair flower or pastel pink jewellery.

Of course, ballet shoes make the perfect bridal shoe and if you don’t wear traditional ribbon-wrap shoes then a pair of beautiful pumps from French Sole are divinely dainty.  To alter your look during the day, you could change for your evening reception into sparkling flats because with this wedding theme, you really do need to dance all night!

Your makeup should be barely-there beautiful to create that flawless look and, of course, a high bun is the ideal hairstyle. Why not add a braid or a touch of softness to your style though to avoid any hint of harshness?

Bridesmaids can mirror you with a floor-skimming gown or opt instead for a short dress with more layers in the skirt. This is a particularly fabulous look in winter teamed with a cardigan or jumper and of course, flower girls in cute little tutus and ballet pumps will be oh-so adorable (plus they’ll love you for fulfilling all their bridesmaid AND ballerina dreams in one!)

Romantic, delicate touches should infuse your wedding day at every opportunity. I love pale pink flowers cascading from golden containers and tea light holders with metallic finishes that create the most gorgeous light as darkness begins to fall. Candlelight also creates a touch of drama that’s simply ideal for this theme.

Exquisite detailing is definitely the key – after all, you’re creating the most magical stage for your wedding. More flowing fabrics on tables and even chair backs continue the gauzy, soft styling and calligraphy on your invitations and wedding day stationery is an absolute must.

Your cake could also be a frothy pink confection with layers of ruffled icing that hint at dancers in tutus and you could use ribbons (and even ballet shoes) to create your themed table plan or backdrop. Finally, why not add a little extra opulence to your tables with dreamy charger plates and glassware hired from Duchess & Butler?

The setting for a ballet must be perfect after all.
