December's Topaz - This Month's Birthstone Wedding Theme

December 16, 2014

Oh December, you are such a beautiful month full of frosts and sparkling ice. There’s something so beautiful about those super cool mornings when everything is glistening. It’s well worth the chilled face just to be out and about to see it. Perhaps it’s my love of crisp midwinter that also makes me smile when I see December’s birthstone inspired wedding ideas because sharp and clear blue topaz definitely suits the season.

In my opinion, if you’re planning a December birthstone wedding, you have the perfect excuse to add bright pops of colour, your ‘something blue’, to your wedding outfit. I would be in awe of anyone who wore this stunning blue gown on their big day and, as statements go, they don’t come much bolder than this! If you’re not quite ready to glide down the aisle in this cobalt creation, you could always consider changing into something blue for your evening reception.

Another option would be a to opt for a wedding gown with blue touches in it or add a wrap with spots of colour. Blue petticoats would also be fantastic peeping out from under a 50s style skirt or under an on-trend tulle or patterned overskirt in a more traditional length wedding gown. There are so many more options that you think!

Bridesmaids however will certainly look great in blue gowns. Mix and match styles to suit your maids or let them choose their own but keep in mind that winter bridesmaids might prefer longer length dresses for warmth on the day (and also to reuse for festive events!). I can also imagine that grooms and guys will be much happier with blue tones in their outfits than pinks and purples so indulge them with sharp suits, tailored shirts or topaz touches to their wedding day ensemble.

Blue wedding accessories are an absolute must-have. Stunning topaz earrings would be a perfect finishing touch and blue shoes are another brilliant option. You could pick up a pair on the high street and accessorise them with jeweled shoe-clips or even have your shoes dyed professionally to precisely match your colour scheme.

For decorations, blue glass is absolutely perfect. Create fantastic tabletops with collections of cobalt bottles and glasses with single stems in each. Don’t be tempted to over-use the blue – keep the scheme simple with coloured tablecentres then just opt for white linens or even burlaps and rustic fabrics for a more country look.

Again, keep working the blue as a high impact accent colour in all other areas of your wedding. Blue motifs on your cake for example will maintain the impact and the theme without swamping your day in heavy colour. As you can see from these images, topaz tones work surprisingly well with rustic weddings if you just hold back on the blue a little.

Blue is a brilliant colour for weddings – you just need a few touches of it to create a high impact look so pick and choose ideas to suit your day and you’ll create a wedding that’s as magical as a frosty morning!
