I must admit that I adore stylish cake toppers and laser-cut calligraphy versions are my absolute favourites. They add a fabulous finishing touch to a wedding cake and glittered or metallic toppers bring just the right amount of ‘wow’ to a perfect plainly iced cake. I also love the fact that you can choose whatever message suits you best for your topper so whether you’d like to keep it simple or even a little humorous, the choice is totally yours. Some of the toppers that have really stolen my heart of late are those that take a quote from a wedding reading and repeat it atop the cake – how romantic! Another reason to love whimsical cake toppers is that even after all the cake has been eaten, you’re still left with a wonderful keepsake.
The watercolour trend has been on my wedding radar for some time now and as a bit of an artistic flop myself, I’m continually in awe of the stunning artwork that has appeared in weddings of late, particularly painted onto classical cakes. Painted cakes are just all kinds of brilliant – they can be elegant and understated or dramatic and eye-catching but they’re always gorgeous and they give you the opportunity to create something very special. From painted lovebirds, quotes and more, these cakes are true works of art.
As far as I’m concerned adorning your cake with decadent fresh flowers will never go out of style. I am such a fan of the modern stacked cakes that trail gorgeous blooms and, to my mind, these are a much more organic and enchanting option to those cakes that had endless rows of rose heads crammed in between the layers. Here, the cake and the flowers seem to work together to look even more charming. I’m sure you’ll have noticed the trend for greenery in weddings and this can certainly translate to wedding cakes too. A few simple curling fronds are all that’s needed to make a flawless cake even more sublime – the phrase ‘less is more’ has never been truer.

Single layer cakes are also big news in the wedding world at the moment and when these are garnished with luxurious fruits and flowers, there’s really nothing to beat them. As part of a wedding feast or an abundant dessert table, they make a fabulous centerpiece without leaving you with loads of cake. Place your single layer cake on a beautiful stand to make sure that no one misses it.
Finally, who can resist a little bit of colour? Certainly not me, especially when it’s carefully done and impeccably executed. Soft colours finished with pretty embellishments give a cake that all your guests will love.
I hope you’ve adored this little look at some truly gorgeous wedding cakes – the only tricky thing would be deciding which one you want to taste first!
