Smaller weddings are becoming increasingly popular and I have to say that I love them. I adore the thought of creating a really intimate atmosphere where your guests really become a part of your day, closely sharing everything with you. Of course, if you’re planning a celebration for a select number of guests, you really need to choose the right venue. Here’s my pick of the most romantic wedding venues for small, intimate weddings. Come and feel the love…
The Malabar – I love Cumbria so The Malabar absolutely caught my eye. It has a wild backdrop with unbroken views across fields and valleys that couldn’t be more romantic. There’s award-winning accommodation for you and your guests and The Malabar seems like a small, luxurious hotel with all the comforts you’d expect. You can bring in your own caterers but The Malabar can provide you with recommended suppliers and even a planner if you’d like.
Davenport House – Shropshire’s Davenport House is a breathtaking venue for your intimate wedding. It’s idyllic – chic décor, picturesque grounds and more than a touch of grandeur. The venue is all about flexibility so you can tailor it to suit your day and you’ll have a wonderful selection of spaces to choose from for your ceremony and reception. Plus – those photo backdrops are just heaven.

The Barley Mow – for the ultimate in laid back wedding style, you need The Barley Mow in Surrey. It’s a real ‘home’ for your reception and you can even take over the whole pub if you’d like. From the front of the building, you look out over the village green whilst the large, light conservatory restaurant at the rear is a fantastic setting for your wedding breakfast. The brilliant staff will also help you on the day and they love creating bespoke menus too.
Curradine Barns – there’s just so much to love about barn wedding venues and Curradine Barns is one of my favourites. The 19th Century traditional brick barns have been brilliantly renovated and there’s also fab farmhouse accommodation for your guests. The pretty central courtyard makes me smile and there’s plenty of choice for your ceremony too including outdoor options (hurrah!). It’s a traditional, sophisticated and luxurious venue in the lovely Worcestershire countryside.

Weston Manor – the wedding jewel of the Isle of Wight, Weston Manor House ticks all the boxes. It’s licensed for intimate weddings, there’s stunning accommodation, it can be yours exclusively and you have your own choice of caterers so that you can really tailor your wedding day. The gardens look out over the sea, there are woods and fabulous gardens not to mention a private Catholic chapel that’s available for weddings and blessings.
Morden Hall – full of history and set within a National Trust park in London, Morden Hall is an amazing Georgian mansion with oodles of original features and lots of choice for your intimate wedding. If you’re there in the summer, you have to have you drinks reception on the North Lawn beside the river or, during winter, make the most of the light-filled indoor space. Definitely a place to enjoy as if it were your own and the excellent in-house caterers will make sure your food is unforgettable!

Charlotte Street Hotel – with a maximum capacity for ceremonies of 50, Charlotte Street Hotel definitely makes my list of romantic venues. In the heart of Bloomsbury, it’s the place for intimate, stylish weddings AND the food here is incredible. It’s a child friendly venue with stunning accommodation for your lucky guests and a choice of rooms for ceremony and reception, all with a completely different look.
Bartholomew Barn – I’ve got a soft spot for the West Sussex countryside so it’s no surprise that Bartholomew Barn, and ‘the prettiest potting shed’ for bridal preparations, in the area has a place on this list. It’s romantic, intimate and just so gorgeous. Don’t however imagine that it’s not luxurious because it certainly is. Chic interiors go with this brick and stone barn and all the oak beams, chandeliers and details create an utterly charming venue. Find it in rolling fields and woodlands and don’t miss the summerhouse in the grounds either.

Hatch House – set in the glorious Wiltshire countryside Hatch House is beautiful and super romantic. It’s perfect for intimate weddings because the ‘family home’ vibe provides just the right atmosphere. There are no packages; it’s private, personal and incredible special. You’ll have a choice of ceremony areas (oh, the Pavilion in the walled garden!) and the combination of grounds and gardens is perfect. You can really create your own day at Hatch House.
Oxnead Hall – I have all the love for Oxnead Hall in Norfolk. This award-winning Grade II* listed building couldn’t be any more perfect for intimate country weddings. You’ve got 15 acres of grounds to explore and even an intimate 13th Century church on-site. Think mullioned windows, open fires, wood paneled walls and four poster beds, Oxnead Hall is your luxurious country escape. This is a dream of a venue and how marvellous it would be to share it with a super select number of guests.
