Magical Snowflake Wedding Theme Inspiration

December 01, 2016

Well I don’t know about you but I’m certainly dreaming of a white Christmas, just like I do every year! There’s something so fabulous about snow and I think perhaps that because it’s so rare here in the UK, we’re all a little obsessed. It’s really no surprise that snowy wedding themes are always popular in winter so here’s a flurry of ideas for a magical snowflake wedding theme.

Beautiful snow flake wedding theme ideas

Let’s start with your bridal ensemble shall we? I’d be tempted to go for a layered gown, possibly with sleeves so that you’re on trend and wrapped up against the elements. Pretty patterned lace over-layers, such as those in the new Naomi Neoh collection would look so lovely and romantic. Alternatively you could opt for a striking contemporary wedding dress with a high neck and large, pocketed skirt – Jesus Peiro’s Mirtilli collection is full of First Lady style gowns that would be absolutely perfect.

When it comes to accessories, how about adding a sparkling brooch from Glitzy Secrets? You could wear it on the bodice of your gown, as an attachment for a belt or the brooch could hold a big wrap or shawl in place. Whatever you choose to do with it, the Snowflake of Beauty brooch will look gorgeous.

Speaking of warming accessories, I love to see brides in luxurious snoods and gloves so don’t be afraid to get cosy on your wedding day! Similarly, it’s also wise to be a bit practical – if you’re going to be outside in the cold for photos, consider changing into a warm pair of boots and then slip back into your elegant shoes once you’re back inside.

For flowers, pure whites and chilly greys are the perfect combination but how about other seasonal additions such as fir cones?  These are a DIY brides dream in winter – collect them through autumn and early winter and then use them throughout your wedding décor. There are so many tutorials online to help you make frosted fir cones and these make the most amazing (and cost effective) additions to place settings and candleholders. You can also use them in buttonholes, table plans, garlands and hanging decorations.

Plain white paper is also a brilliant starting point for snowflake DIY. Remember making cutout paper snowflakes when you were at school? Well, now’s the time to rediscover that skill and take it to the next level! Huge hanging paper snowflakes make an instant impression and they make brilliant backdrops for ceremonies and top tables. Or, hang them throughout your venue from clear threads for maximum effect. Again, you’ll find all the instructions you need online or you can also buy these ready made.

A snowflake stamp or cutter will also cover a lot more wedding DIY for this theme. How about stamping a snowflake motif onto favour bags, stationery or napkins? With a shaped hole punch, you could also make your own on-theme confetti and a snowflake cookie cutter would allow you to whip up batches of shaped cookies or marshmallows – both are perfect for serving to guests with warming drinks or giving as sweet and tasty favours.

Of course no one can promise you snow on your big day but there are so many ways that you can make sure that your snowflake themed wedding really is the most wonderful time of the year without a fall of fresh snow!
