May 02, 2016

Audrey Hepburn. She really needs no introduction and in any survey that asks women whom they would like to be more like, her name is always a popular answer. And, it’s not surprising – she was intelligent, compassionate and talented and she had the most wonderful style. If you’d like to take influence from Audrey Hepburn on your wedding day and channel the woman that famously said, “elegance is the only beauty that never fades”, then just read on…

If the amazing Audrey Hepburn is going to be your wedding day style muse then there are two words that you need to keep in mind throughout – ‘chic’ and ‘groomed’. Whether Audrey was in front of the camera or not, she was always elegant and perfectly presented. This doesn’t mean she was heavily made up or fussily dressed but there was always a sense of timeless beauty and that was most definitely her signature style.

However, because Hepburn was part of so many iconic films, it’s not surprising that lots of brides use one of these classic movies as the basis for their Hepburn inspired wedding. So let’s take a little look through some of the most famous…

Of course, I just have to start with Breakfast at Tiffany’s and a simple, bateau neck gown is a great starting point. An Audrey-esque high-bun is the obviously updo of choice and of course, perfectly manicured brows are another must. With the eyes being the focal point of this look, go for pale pink lips rather than a heavy red. Of course, you’re going to need statement jewels for this look and the Classic Romance Tiara and Starlet of the Forties Necklace, both from Glitzy Secrets are suitably showstopping!

In Roman Holiday, Hepburn wore another traditional tiara and there are some fabulous choices in the Glitzy Secrets collection. Pearls also made an appearance in this movie and the Pearls of Glamour Necklace has an elegance that Audrey would just adore. Of course, a tea-length gown would be a wonderful nod to Hepburn’s famous 50s style (scooter and Italian backdrop optional!) with the a pearl bridal headband to finish. Again, Hepburn’s eyes are the centre of her look but you could chance a redder lip here and maybe even a short fringe with some cute curls.

If you’d like a wedding gown that’s a little more colourful, why not take inspiration from the amazing Givenchy designed gown that Hepburn wore in the film Sabrina. With stunning embroidery and patterns to die for, you could certainly wear an embellished or floral gown for a similarly stylish look and don’t forget a red lip and simple pearl earrings.

I can’t leave you without mentioning a few final ideas that I’m sure Audrey would approve of. Hepburn loved ballet flats and was, as we know, an amazing dancer so ballet slippers would absolutely be in keeping as bridal footwear. A classic perfume such as Chanel No.5 would be truly perfect and, of course, big sunglasses, a figure-hugging black dress and a new husband to hold on to should certainly be part of your Hepburn-inspired honeymoon wardrobe!
