Autumn Wedding Ideas You’ll Fall For

September 11, 2015

Autumn is absolutely one of my favourite times of year –the hint of freshness in the air, the promise of winter and most of all, those stunning colours that you just don’t get at any other time. It’s a time when nature is at it’s prettiest and as such, autumn is, to my mind, a fabulous time to get married. There’s so much inspiration to be taken from everything around you and so much beauty to behold. If you’ve got your heart set on a rustic wedding, then this is the season for you…

Firstly, start with your colour palette and this is super easy with an autumn wedding – warm browns, yellows, oranges and reds with hints of berry tones too. If a colour creeps in that isn’t a natural hue, cast it out and keep everything soft and seasonal!

So, now you’ve got your colours, let’s start with outfits and autumn is certainly a season when the groom and his groomsmen are going to look amazing. Think touches of tweed or corduroy, unstructured suits, waistcoats, coloured or checked shirts and even a luxurious wool jumper and you’re there. This is the perfect look for guys who just can’t face the thought of a stiff or starchy suit and this laid back look sets the tone for your wedding perfectly.

You and your maids have also got a lot of choice. Add cardigans or knits over dresses, touches of seasonal colour and use laces and natural fabrics. Shiny silks and satins are a no-no and instead, opt for boho, style gowns, unstructured designs or those with a hint of wildness! Bright white fabrics are also out so creams and slightly warms shades are what you need. Autumnal flower crowns are wonderful accessories and the Luxe Treasure bracelet and hairpins from Glitzy Secrets are perfect finishing touches to any autumnal outfit.

For your flowers, it simply must be seasonal and bring in berries, leaves and autumnal foliage for texture and colour. I can’t get enough of rich red hydrangeas or brown dahlias and I also have no doubt that your florist will be absolutely full of fantastic ideas. Autumn is all about abundance so go big with centerpieces, bouquets and floral details. A wooden archway covered in flowers and foliage will be an unforgettable backdrop to your ceremony or dinner.

Whilst we’re talking about styling, you’re going to need lots more natural touches here too. Large wooden slices make great cake stands and smaller pieces are perfect for place cards or escort cards. Chunky logs are great stands for candles and the warm light is just what’s needed as the evening draws in.

You can’t have an autumn wedding without including a few nods to the harvest and all those seasonal treats we love – how about toffee apple favours or fruit-filled pies instead of cake? A rustic cider cart would be a great touch and choose a hearty, warming menu and invite your guests to join for a real feast of autumnal flavours. Keep tabletops bare and use brown cards and papers along with string and raffia for your stationery.
