Hairstyle Ideas for your Bridesmaids

February 20, 2016

When it comes to your wedding day, it’s not just your hair and makeup you have to worry about – you’ll be surrounded by your best girls on the day, and you’ll want your bridesmaids to look as gorgeous as you! These days, many brides don’t dictate their bridesmaids’ hairstyles (especially if they’re not paying for the hair stylist), but you can still have a chat with the girls about which styles will work for them and for the theme of the day. Here’s some beautiful bridesmaid inspiration…

Updo

A bridesmaid classic, updos work best with bridesmaids’ dresses that have straps, a cowl back or a bateau neckline. From a sleek ballerina bun to a loose, modern chignon, the updo has a lot of variety to it, so you might want to discuss this with your bridesmaids. As an updo is also the most formal of hairstyles, it doesn’t require any additional accessories – except maybe some delicate pins, or a gorgeous pair of chandelier earrings!

Down

Loosely-curled hair worn down is one of the most popular bridesmaid hairstyles in weddings today. Although these styles are great for romantic, modern weddings, you’ll need to be aware that loose curls are more likely to fall out than those in styled updos. If your bridesmaids are worried about this, ask your mum or the mother of the groom to bring along a mini can of hairspray in her purse for the photographs. Down styles look especially beautiful when accessorised with subtle headbands.

Half up

The best of both worlds, the half-up-half-down hair do is a great way to strike a balance between the formality of an updo and the romance of loose hair. It also gives you the opportunity to add some pretty touches such as diamante pins, fresh flowers or a glittering side clip. If you want to add interest but don’t have the budget for accessories, then braids are also a great option.

Short

If one or more of your bridesmaids has cropped or chin-length hair, let her rock it without feeling the pressure to get extensions! Shorter bobs look fantastic when curled or finger waved, while pixie cuts are fabulous all on their own. Slides or clips are a chic option for bridesmaids with short hair.

Retro

Having a retro wedding theme? Treat your bridesmaids to some gorgeous vintage-inspired hair styles for the day! If your day is inspired by the Twenties, then marcel waves and jewelled headbands will look amazing. If you’re more of a Forties or Fifties bride, try victory rolls or Hollywood glamour curls. Having a Sixties celebration? Try a beehive-inspired updo.

Boho

The trend for flower crowns is showing no signs of slowing; in fact, floral crowns are only getting bigger, brighter and more colourful! If your wedding has a bohemian vibe to it, then flower crowns will look gorgeous on your bridesmaids. They work with updos, plaits, loose hair AND short hair, making them one of the most versatile hair accessories around. If you’re concerned about the cost of fresh flowers, try a hair vine instead.
