Pastel Princesses: Pretty Bridesmaid Looks

February 29, 2016

I’ll admit that over recent years, my wedding-loving heart has been a little bit saddened by a lack of pretty pastels. It seems that for a while, brides decided that these super soft and feminine colours weren’t quite right for their modern weddings but now, I’m very happy to say, we’re rediscovering the beauty of pastel tones and the best bridesmaids are all wearing them now…

Firstly, let me explain the new rule of pastels – think mix and match at all times. Your wedding won’t look its best if all your maids are in the same colour and instead, by mixing it up and allowing each bridesmaid to wear a different shade, there will be a fresh and vibrant feel to the day and those romantic colours will really be noticed.

So, let’s turn our attention to your bridesmaids dresses and frankly, once you’ve embraced pastels, you’re going to be spoiled for choice. Fantastic designers such as Twobirds, Maids To Measure and Jenny Yoo create the most gorgeous gowns that are available in a huge choice of colours and delicate prints. So, your best girls can either wear the same design in different colours or choose both the design and shade that suits them best. Whatever option you go for, your bridesmaids will look fantastic and don’t forget that little flowergirls look absolutely adorable in pastels too.

Pastel shoes are another fabulous option for maids, either in matching or contrasting tones to their dresses. If your girls would like to go for designer shoes, giving them the chance to choose a pair in a colour they’ll wear again will be super popular. I also love to see bridesmaids in cutely coloured cardigans and, given the unpredictability of the British weather, these cover-ups are almost a wedding essential at any time of year!

Obviously, your bridesmaids need accessories and of course Glitzy Secrets has everything you might need. The brand new Bridesmaid Collection features the most heavenly styles and pastel shades and these pieces make fantastic gifts. As a good bridesmaid should be on hand with emergency supplies for her bride throughout the day, a pastel coloured clutch bag is another ace accessory. Just make sure that there’s room for make-up, money, a phone and a few other w-day essentials so your maids will have everything they need to hand.

When it comes to pastel flowers, you’ve got a huge and incredibly beautiful choice. You could either opt for a bouquet that just uses neutral tones to sit elegantly against the coloured dresses and bring everyone’s look together or you could go for bouquets that use a wide selection of pastel blooms. Your florist will be able to advise what will work best with your wedding theme and your budget so do ask for their advice. Of course, if you’d like your maids to look a little more boho, flower crowns with coloured flowers or pastel foliage are the perfect option.

Finally, when it comes to the morning of the wedding itself, there are a few final pastel essentials that you might like to consider. Firstly, I love pretty silk robes and not only do these make a lovely gift for your bridesmaids, they also make those ‘wedding prep’ photographs that bit prettier – say no to chunky toweling robes and indulge yourselves instead! Lastly, every bridesmaid should be given a heartfelt thank you card on the wedding day and what could be sweeter than a card in a pastel colour to match her dress that’s full of love and thanks from her best friend? Cue those wedding day emotions…
