Regal Romance: Beautiful Royal Wedding Ideas

September 02, 2016

Now I have been in love with weddings for more years than I care to remember and I can actually be sure of the exact moment that I fell in love with all things matrimonial. I very clearly remember watching Lady Diana marry Prince Charles when I was a little girl and that was that. I lost my heart to weddings. So this feature, full of beautiful Royal wedding ideas, is the perfect homage to where my journey into the world of weddings started…

For a truly regal wedding, you need a truly opulent colour palette and luxurious gold absolutely has to make an appearance here. From thick gilt-edged wedding invitations through to gold charger plates and glittering details, there’s no doubting that golden accents will give you a wedding day fit for a queen.

Now as every girl knows, a dreamy wedding dress is essential and a Princess gown is oh-so perfect. These gowns, with their full skirts are quintessentially bridal and, when teamed with a show-stopping train, they’re perfect for regal weddings. Royal brides always wear veils and, of course, an exquisite tiara is a must-have. Happily Glitzy Secrets can provide you with all the crystal jewels you could ever wish for!

For little flower girls, Nicki Macfarlane is the only name you need to know. Her beautifully traditional gowns are the thing that little girls’ dreams are made of and as she designed the mini-gowns worn by the flower girls at the wedding of the Duke & Duchess of Cambridge, these really are perfect.

If your prince doesn’t have a military uniform to wear then a top hat and tails would be the obvious choice or you could opt for a black-tie dress code as a sophisticated and formal alternative. Just don’t forget a traditional buttonhole and a well turned-out ‘supporter’, the Royal title for best men.

When it comes to styling your regal wedding, you need to think big. Resplendent and impressive floral arrangements should tower upwards from the tables (well, you’ve got grand ballrooms to fill after all!) and there should be plenty of candlelight. Golden charger plates, exquisite cutlery and fabulous glassware should all combine to create splendidly luxurious tables.

Ideas for a royal wedding theme

Royal weddings certainly need traditional touches – place cards should be written in elegant calligraphy, napkins should be carefully folded (without any unsightly creases!) and your cake really has to be an iced creation with many tiers. The top tier is always set aside to become the christening cake for the first-born and cake slices are also sent out to acquaintances who weren’t able to attend the celebrations.

Entertainment-wise, a string quartet will provide a fitting musical backdrop to your drinks reception and dinner but as we know from recent Royal weddings, the younger members of the families enjoy hitting the dance floor as much as the rest of us so a brilliant DJ will get the party going in the style to which you’ve become accustomed!

Newlywed Royal couples ALWAYS leave the reception before their guests so at the appointed hour, change into your going-away outfit and brave the paparazzi one last time before you can escape for your first night as husband and wife!
