Beach Wedding Dresses You’ll Fall In Love With

May 27, 2015

It must be the time of year but my mind turns to thoughts of sun-drenched beaches with an ever-increasing frequency at the moment. Whether it’s the famous unpredictability of the British weather or the feel-good factor that warmer weather induces in us all, it’s hard to know but more and more couples jet off for beach weddings every year. There are also plenty of people who can’t ignore our own coast as a wedding destination so it seems almost essential for us to take a look at some stunning beach wedding dresses that you, and your guests, will love…

It’s a look that everywhere right now but to my mind, backless gowns really are made for the beach. They’re suitably different with a little bit of sexy, feminine allure thrown in for good measure. Whether you opt for a really revealing ultra low back gown with delicate straps or a slightly more decorous look, don’t forget the sunscreen!

I make no secret of my love of sparkling metallic and embellished gowns look great by the sea when the light glints and glitters, making your dress look even more amazing. I also adore plunging V-neck bodices so adding these two elements together might well make my perfect gown!

Tulle is just so popular right now and with its romantic, ethereal lightness, it’s perfect for beach weddings. Let the sea breeze ruffle your skirts and let the sun dance through the fabric for a truly enchanting look. Tulle also looks beautiful in softly shaded colours so whether you’d like a pastel hue or a more dramatic touch of grey, I’d encourage you to go for it – beach weddings are the perfect place for a bit of unconventionality!

Another fabric that looks divine on the beach is lace. Delicate, light, effortlessly pretty and suitably luxurious for a wedding, lace always makes me smile. It can be used to cover up or to subtly reveal and gowns that mix sheer lace and layers really appeal.

If you’re planning on spending a long time on the beach, or if you’ve got pins to the proud of, then a short-skirted gown might be absolutely ideal. You’re saved any worry that damp sand or salty seawater might ruin your precious dress and again, that touch of bold difference is just wonderful. I really love the combination of shorter skirt and long sleeves and if you want to make sure you avoid sunburnt shoulders, this couldn’t be better! Above the knee or tea-length, shorter wedding dresses couldn’t be better for the beach.

The boho look is also ideal for the beach. Choose between an unstructured gown with fine straps and a tight bodice that leads into a long, loose skirt, cap or laces sleeves and a layered skirt or indulge your gypsy side with an off-the-shoulder gown and a glorious ruffled neckline.

Warm evening light on the beach is simply made for evocative wedding photographs and if you’re planning on lingering after the light is lost, a wrap, shawl or cover-up should definitely be part of your wedding day wardrobe. After all, this is a day when you’ll want to make the most of every minute.
