Romantic Half Up Dos: The Perfect Bridal Hairstyle?

May 27, 2017

Your wedding day hairstyle is a super important part of your big day look. The half-up half-down hairstyle is BIG news right now and it’s easy to see why. Adaptable, sexy and so on trend, it’s also incredibly romantic plus it works well with so many styles of day. So, whatever length hair you have and whatever gown you’re wearing, there’s a beautiful half-up hairstyle to suit you.

Why are half-up half-down styles so popular with brides? Well, they’re a little bit more relaxed than a sleek and formal chignon but they’re still glamorous and romantic. You can style your half-up do to completely suit your day so it can be polished or more undone in style. In short, half-up half-down styles really are the best of both worlds.

Half-up styles are also perfect for brides because they’ll stay in place all day long and these hairstyles bring brilliant balance to wedding dresses. However, if I had to single out one main reason why romantic half-up dos are so loved by brides it’s because there are just so many variations on the half-up do.

Braided styles are so popular right now and oh my goodness, these are just perfect for boho brides or anyone embracing an outdoorsy or rustic luxe wedding day. I love braids with fresh flowers woven in but for a little more sparkle, a wedding hair vine would be your best choice. Vine of Extravagance from Glitzy Secrets is one of my favourites and this would work well with any hair colour and a dreamy lace gown.

Waterfall braids, fishtail plaits and messy rope braids are all bridal favourites at the moment. Some braided styles are also great for shorter haired brides so just take some time with your hairstylist to discuss the half-up do that will work best for you.

If you’re looking for a really elegant half-up style then channel your inner Bridget Bardot with a sleek, slightly volumised effect on the crown and perfect tumbling tresses and oodles of loose curls. This style needs a classically understated bridal hair accessory so I’d opt for the Garland of Charm hair pin or a gorgeous hair comb such as Daisy Dream to give this look an extra touch of luxury.

Twisted half-up half-down styles are also great for brides. If you’re not wearing a veil, they create lots of interest and they’re also perfect if the thought of something too formal just doesn’t appeal. Twisted styles can be as messy or as smooth as you like (or as your hair will allow!) and the perfect accessory would be one of the delightful bridal hair flowers from Glitzy Secrets. My pick for heavenly summer brides would have to be Roses of Grace.
