Dreamy Mermaid Wedding Inspiration

August 12, 2016

I am a huge fan of the sugar-coated Disney’s ‘The Little Mermaid’, but when it comes to weddings I absolutely adore the idea of a dreamy, ethereal underwater wedding style. I’m talking windswept hair, shimmering metallic shades and an abundance of sequins.

The Stationery

Soft, watercolour designs are perfect for a mermaid wedding theme. Opt for blue, green or grey shades that match an underwater colour palette. Splashes of watercolour are very underwater-esque but in a way that isn’t too obvious. Give your guests an ever so subtle hint of your special day…

The Bridal Outfit

For a mermaid-inspired bridal look, you want it too be sexy but in an understated way. A fitted fishtail gown will not only look gorgeous, it’s perfect for this particular wedding theme. Delicate embroidery, silvery sequins and statement jewels are guaranteed to look beautiful for a sea maiden. If you wanted to keep your jewellery ultra elegant, take a look at The Pearl Wedding Collection from Glitzy Secrets. There is anything from extravagant cluster of pearl necklaces to simple pearl earrings.

Alternatively, a loose flowing gown in muted shades such as dusty blue or grey is made for an elegant, beach affair. A loose up-do or tousled waves suit this theme beautifully.

The Bridesmaids

There is a wide colour palette available for your girls that will wonderfully suit a mermaid wedding theme. Mix and match soft blue, grey and silver gowns for a combination that your girls are bound to adore. Add delicate silver jewellery to complete their look beautifully and they will look oh so pretty.

The Flowers

A bouquet brimming with lush greenery and organic flowers is perfect for a mermaid wedding. Pale succulents teamed with wild foliage and blue dahlias are a wonderful, yet natural floral style. You want your bouquet and wedding flowers to embody coastal influences, so urchin-esque blooms are a perfect choice. Make your chosen theme clear to your florist and they will be able to create a wonderful design.

The Table Décor

The wedding table décor is incredibly important for a mermaid wedding theme, and if you get it right it’ll help your style all tie in together. You want your tables to be unassumingly beautiful with an organic feel. Foliage entwined with driftwood make beautiful centrepieces. Add a few tall candle holders that look slightly weathered but still beautiful. You don’t need much colour for your table décor – muted blue or grey table cloths are all you need!

If you want to recreate a mermaid wedding theme with a touch of luxury, consider using silver sequin table cloths or runners. You can still use the above décor, but it will simply add a little sparkle to your table!

For your place names, I love the thought of writing your guests names on natural sea glass or oyster shells. And for your wedding favours? You could source mini bottles and write a special message for each guest. You’ve got your very own message in a bottle – perfection!

The Wedding Cake

For a mermaid wedding theme, simplicity is key when it comes to your wedding cake. Watercolour cakes are a seriously hot trend for 2016, and they’re absolutely divine! A simple white wedding cake can be easily decorated with delicate watercolour blue icing.

Display on a weathered, wooden table for a look that is seaside rustic, yet chic.

This is such a dreamy, ethereal wedding theme that really does transport you to life underwater. It’s also a style that is completely unique, and your guests are guaranteed to be wowed!
