Fabulous Festive Lighting Ideas for Your Christmas Wedding

December 14, 2015

There is something so magical about a Christmas wedding and although after much deliberation we decided to have a summer wedding, I still have a soft spot for beautiful winter weddings. If you are planning a Christmas wedding then you may want to have your ceremony a little earlier in the day so you have enough light for your wedding photos, however the evenings drawing in doesn’t have to be a downside to a winter wedding, it leaves you a perfect opportunity to play around with some gorgeous lighting ideas.

Candles

Whether you are having a Christmas wedding that is filled with vibrant reds and forest greens or you are having an ice white big day filled with glitter and sparkle, there’s a certain romantic glow that you can only get from a candle.
Set the scene of your wedding day perfectly by starting with candles at the ceremony. Lining the aisle is a beautiful way to add a dreamy glow and will also be much more cost effective than paying for flowers to line the aisle. Just make sure your candles are in glass hurricane lanterns to keep those flames far away from your dress!

Candles can also be the perfect finishing touch to your reception tables for your Christmas wedding. Swap traditional floral centrepieces for pillar candles nestled in a bed of rose petals. Or why not add some pretty tea lights and candelabras to give a glowing finishing touch to your tables.

It might be worth checking with your wedding venue what type of candles you are permitted, some will have just a few restrictions, others may ask that any candles used are in secure holders and some may request you only use flame-free battery powered candles.

Fairy Lights

You can’t have a Christmas wedding without fairylights! Decorate the outside of your venue by hanging fairylights in the gardens, as the evening draws in you are bound to have some guests mingling outside so why not give them some twinkling lights to look at. You can also have some gorgeous photos with the lights twinkling in the background.

You can also light up your wedding reception beautifully with fairylights on your reception tables, hanging from the walls or ceiling and wrapped around beams.

Lanterns

Paper lanterns are another beautiful way to add a romantic glow to your winter wedding, string them along in the garden or hang them high during your reception. This works particularly well if you have a barn wedding venue with lots of beams.
Although these ideas may look extra special at a Christmas wedding, don’t forget you can also use fairy lights, lanterns and candles to give your summer wedding a romantic glow as the evening draws in.
