Kate and Ambroise Wedding - Captured by Babb Photo

March 15, 2016

How could we resist bringing you a fun filled 1950s wedding?

Kate and Ambroise’s vibrant, polka dot wedding was photographed by the very talented Laura Babb of Babb Photo. London based but prepared to work throughout the world, Laura describes what she loves about capturing a couple’s special day – “me and my awesome little team at Babb Photo are on a mission to document weddings in a creative, artistic and colourful way with a focus on real moments: laughing so hard you snort champagne out of your nose, dancing until your face is bright red, from the epic to the in between, they love to photograph intimate elopements, colourful and quirky weddings, destination weddings, free spirited bohemian weddings, laid back weddings, rustic weddings, urban warehouse weddings, crazy colourful weddings, quirky alternative weddings, multi-cultural weddings, creative weddings, wedding adventurers and anything non-traditional”.

With a wedding as colourful and fun as Kate and Ambroise, we are sure Laura and her team were in their element capturing this fabulous wedding.

A 1950s real wedding featuring Glitzy Secrets jewellery

Kate and Ambroise met through mutual friends whilst studying for their A levels in 2001. Maybe not in the most romantic of settings – the local Weatherspoon’s pub! They got engaged in March 2014 and took 15 months to plan their fabulous day. For their wedding venue they chose the beautiful stately home – Hampton Court House. Kate explains “it’s so beautiful it didn’t need much decoration and it was only 5 minutes from my parents’ and the church. Perfect!”.

We love Kate’s wedding day style from her fabulous 1950s style dress which she purchased from Fur Coat No Knickers in London Bridge. This was the first shop Kate went to, she had “looked at so many wedding dresses online and in magazines and their name kept coming up. I went to about 3 other wedding dress shops just to try a few other styles but nothing else felt right”. She said “I knew I wanted something in a vintage style, and tea length so I could swish around without falling over! Emma and Laura from FCNK adapted one of their 50s style designs and I had so many compliments on it – everyone said it was very me”. Kate then added our fabulous Precious Heiress Earrings and Precious Heiress Necklace and the most amazing red polka dot shoes from Irregular Choice to complete her style.

We are sure you will agree that Kate and Ambroise’s day certainly looked fun filled and Kate explains that they had so many special memories. Their favourites were “seeing all our friends and family in the church, walking out with my new husband and being so excited that we'd just got married, messing around having photos taken with our bridal party, our first dance and the spontaneous conga that broke out on the dance floor!”.

We love to ask our brides what tips they would give to brides to be? Kate’s advice is invaluable. “There are so many ideas out there and opinions on what a wedding should be, I found it dangerously easy to get swept up in things you don't really need to worry about! You can't go wrong if you stick to what's important to you and your husband-to-be, and what you find fun. For us it was all about keeping the day relaxed with plenty of veggie food, drink and music. Having a great photographer and videographer was important to us, and Laura and Steve were worth every penny; we balanced the budget by hiring or DIY-ing all the stationery and decor. Weddings can generate a lot of waste, so I was really keen to have charity favours and I thought very carefully about how all the wedding bits and bobs could be reused after the wedding before buying them. For example, our potplant centrepieces made lovely gifts for friends and family who'd helped us, and the sparkly tablecloth will be out every Christmas!”.
