May’s Emerald – Inspiration For Your Birthstone Wedding

May 01, 2015

May is a beautiful month for birthdays. I am biased here however as this is the month when I celebrate my own but it is a wonderful time of year. Longer days, warmer days and everything is still lush and fresh before the scorching days of summer. I certainly associate vibrant greens with this month so it seems perfect that May's birthstone is Emerald. If you’re planning a wedding with this rich colour as your inspiration then you will want to read on…

Firstly, let’s look at dresses and I’m happy to say that jewel toned bridal gowns are being seen more and more frequently of late so if you like the idea of saying your vows in a coloured gown then take heart, you’re not alone. Whether you opt for a full emerald outfit, one with flecks of green or a design with coloured details, I have no doubt that it will look fabulous – bold, confident and so incredibly opulent. If a coloured wedding dress feels like a step too far then why not choose a pair of gorgeously green shoes to peep out from below your hem?

Grooms too have been embracing emerald wedding theme trend and I have to say that I love seeing guys in coloured suits as much as I love brides in non-traditional dresses. The green looks simply delightful with ivory gowns and it seems to be a much more celebratory colour than a dour black or grey suit. Again, green bridal accessories look heavenly and emerald shoes look just as great on guys and they do on brides!

Obviously, if you’re enamoured with emerald, then it’s a natural choice for dazzling bridesmaids. Green silks, satins and sequined gowns are absolute heaven in any length you might choose. Light floral accessories will bring a delicate touch to the ensemble or go for luscious glamour with coordinating gem tones or luxurious gold hues.

When it comes to styling your big day, emerald green is a colour par excellence. Dress it down with natural colours and wooden touches for a rustic feel or add in golden details for a more lavish feel. Which one you choose might depend on your venue and will certainly be influenced by your vision for the day but rest assured, this striking shade won’t let you down.

I love the idea of using ferns and evergreens in an emerald floral scheme. Table centres, pew ends, and even backdrops framed with ferns are naturally beautiful and I have to say that the thought of super cute evergreen saplings as favours just makes me smile. A really simple decorative option would be single stems in green glass bottles so start sipping that mineral water now!

If you’d prefer to use your emerald green details sparingly, then here are a few ideas for you – ribbons tied around cutlery or stationery, table linens, cushions in seating areas or you could even create a coloured chandelier or focal point with frames. Let your imagination run wild!

Emerald green is such a rich, almost extravagant colour that I think a little bit of indulgent luxury is certainly called for so why not treat your guests with an emerald themed dessert table with a bespoke cake as the centerpiece? It’s certainly a fitting element to your emerald green wedding theme because this statement colour is just absolutely delectable!
