December 17, 2015

If you are having a winter wedding day then you can have so much fun with your wedding flowers. Mix in festive favourites like holly, ivy and winter berries with more traditional blooms like white or red roses and lilies to leave you with a beautiful winter-worthy wedding bouquet.

Holly might not be a great choice for your bridal bouquet – after all you don’t want it snagging on your wedding dress! But holly can make a great centrepiece at your reception. If you like the idea of a DIY wedding day then why not make your own holly wreaths that can sit at the centre of your reception tables and have a pillar candle nestled in the middle. Or why not fill glass bottles with holly for a cost effective décor idea and have them dotted around your reception venue.

Ivy is another festive favourite that can be easily incorporated into your wedding day. Give your traditional bridal bouquet a winter makeover with the addition of trailing ivy and turn your blooms into a teardrop style bouquet. Or why not add some winter magic to your wedding cake by wrapping it in ivy (you might want to go for faux ivy for this one!).

A traditional bridal bouquet can easily have a festive finish with the addition of berries. For a traditional Christmas bouquet stick to dark red holly berries or consider dark purple/black berries for a unique twist on this winter style.  For a more modern style choose white flowers alongside silver grey berries for a truly winter wonderland festive bouquet.  Whilst looking at the beauty of berries we should also consider the rustic festive addition of pine cones.  These automatically add a touch of Christmas to a a floral arrangement or bouquet.

Or you could embrace a traditional red wedding colour scheme by having poinsettias as your main wedding flower. Poinsettias can make a stunning bridal bouquet or a vibrant centrepiece for your reception tables and will be perfect for adding a shade of Christmas red.

A firm favourite which cannot be ignored when it comes to a Christmas wedding has to be mistletoe.  Your flower girls could carry mistletoe pomanders which could then be hung at the reception - the perfect reason to sneak a quick kiss!

Ok, so they are not technically flowers but a bouquet of baubles can be fun festive alternative to a traditional style wedding bouquet and is even something you could try your hand at making yourself.  A bauble bouquet will also last a lifetime so you can place it into a vase every Christmas to remind yourselves of that special day.

No matter what your winter wedding style, one of these stylish bouquet ideas should suit your day perfectly!
