Beautiful Fairytale Wedding Ideas

August 21, 2015

Most of us spent our childhood dreaming about being a princess bride. Even if you didn't you’ll certainly have imagined your big day and thought of fairy tales, meeting the man of your dreams (aka Prince Charming) and living happily ever after. When carefully considered, fairy-tale themed weddings are tasteful not tacky. Consider a castle venue or keep reading for the best advice from choosing your dress/ball gown to waving a magic wand and creating the most magical wedding day theme.

The Dress

Who could resist playing princess for the day in a full skirted fairy-tale wedding dress? Ball gowns are definitely the dress of choice for this theme with soft A-lines and dramatic full gowns to choose from. For a perfect princess look consider dresses with a touch of colour like a soft blush or pale blue and add to the extravaganza with a cathedral length train and double layered veil to dazzle your prince. What’s more if you have a favourite fairy-tale princess, dress designer Alfred Angelo has created a series of Disney inspired wedding gowns that are perfect for this theme.

The Shoes & Accessories

Glass slipper or not, you need a pair of foot-friendly wedding shoes to dance until midnight. No fairy-tale bride is complete without a sparkly pair of heels. Our advice? Choose a pair of metallic or neutral heels that you’ll be able to wear again and pop a pair of pretty flats in your overnight bag just incase your new shoes start to squeeze your feet after hours of dancing.

For a true princess a tiara is a must.  Glitzy Secrets' Classic Romance Tiara is full of fairytale charm and can be teamed with sparkling crystal earrings for a dreamy bridal style.

The Bridesmaids

Nobody wants to look like Cinderella’s ugly sisters so keep your bridesmaids sophisticated rather than stuffing them into something unforgiving. Soft and shimmery fabrics ooze fairy-tale glamour so choose subtle metallic or delicate pastel shades to make sure you maids compliment you, the leading lady. Dresses with asymmetric necklines and sequin details on the back look worthy of a grand entrance.

The Tables

When we think of fairy tales we imagine hundreds of little lights glowing from every corner of the room. Decorate your tables with tea lights and hang fairy lights from the ceiling to create a beautiful sparkling canopy. If sophisticated glamour is your aim add a stately candelabra to each table finished with tall candles or create a vintage fairy-tale with birdcages, lanterns or place a artificial rose in a glass dome a la Beauty and the Beast.

The Cake

With a world full of princesses to choose from take inspiration from your favourite stories or use props like a fairy-tale castle to top your cake. Don’t be afraid to experiment with different colour combinations and ask your cake designer how to incorporate silhouettes, love birds and elements of different fairy-tales into one spectacular cake. From diamante covered creations to cakes in the shape of carriages there’s no limits when it comes to finding the perfect wedding day dessert.
